OBITUARY: Caroline Lena Schaefer of New Braunfels, age 97, died Wednesday April 20, 1994, at Eden Home for the Aged. She was born Feb. 27, 1897, in Comal County to Carl and Maria (Dauer) Kreusler. On Dec. 18, 1917 she was married to Herbert Schaefer in Comal County. A homemaker, she was a member of the First Protestant United Church of Christ and a life-time member of the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
Surviving are daughter Melinda Birdsong and Husband Merlin of New Braunfels; son Milton Schaefer and wife Roberta of New Braunfels; brother Herbert Kreusler of New Braunfels; grandchildren Malcolm Birdsong, Michael Birdsong, Marilyn Warner, Billy Schaefer, and Ione Steinbach. The funeral service will be held Saturday April 23, 1994, at 2 p.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Comal Cemetery with Rev. Daryl Higgins officiating. | Carolina Lena Kreusler

Benito Lopez receieved a land grant from the state of Texas as a citizen of the Republic of Texas prior to his marriage to Carolina. He was in business in San Antonio in the 1860's, and later in Floresville. He had a pawn shop and general store which had merchandise ranging from a can of sardines to ladies' boots from Italy.
