Hilda attended school at Schoenau and worship services at the Industry Methodist Church. She rode horseback with her cousin Ella Hupe to Sunday School and Confirmation classes. A song book written in German print with her name engraved in gold, dated 1896, was a gift from her Grandmother and Grandfather Eckermann. It was one of her prized possessions.
