Christian Engel was a 21 year old single man from Wilsenroth, Nassau when he immigrated to Texas on the brig JOHANN DETHARDT in 1844. He is named as the father of Johannette. The mother was Friederike Schaefer. According to family tradition, Friederike's parents Carl and Elizabeth Schaefer would not allow Friedericke to marry Christian believing that he was not prosperous and labeled him a "bum." Christian is a founder of New Braunfels, Texas and received Town Lot #104 which lay between Mill and Bridge Streets and Acre Lot #11, a 10 acre lot outside of the city. No information given on what happened to Christian after this time. A hint that he may have moved to Austin County is referenced.
