Vera C. Baker
ODESSA - Lovingly known to those closest to her as "Punt," she will be remembered as a giving mother and a caring grandmother.
Punt passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital with her family by her side. Punt was born Veronica Carolyn Baker on Jan. 26, 1922, in George West to Henry and Mary Hadamek.
On Aug. 22, 1942, Vera married Joseph Jesse Baker, who preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1969.
Punt moved to Odessa with her family in 1958 from McCamey. During this time, she worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. After 31 fulfilling years, Vera enjoyed her well-earned retirement with her family and friends near her. Punt always has a genuine concern for and interest in each of us that will be appreciated for many years to pass.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frank and Joe; and sisters, Dolores and Bertha.
She leaves behind her son, Michael J. Baker; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Baker; two grandchildren, Shannon Baker and Joseph Baker of Odessa; three brothers, Dave Hadamek of Pleasanton, Daniel Hadamek of Beeville and John Hadamek of Ruidoso, N.M.; and a sister, Cecilia Steffens of Buhl, Idaho.
There will be no local services. Vera will be laid to rest with a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Gussettville Cemetery in Gussettville with her son, Mike Baker, officiating.
