Toby was born on November 12, 1941 in Hinton, OK, the second of six children to Lawrence Steffens and Cecilia Hadamek. At the age of 14 he and his family moved to Buhl, ID where he graduated high school and later married Jane Sliman of Gooding, ID. He joined the Army after high school and was stationed in Germany for two years. He then completed two years of college at the College of Southern Idaho, and began a long career in life insurance as an underwriter. Toby retired in 2003 as president of Old Standard Life Insurance and Old West Annuity & Life Insurance in Boise, Idaho. Toby and Jane celebrated over 47 years of marriage together and raised three children. He enjoyed camping, riding 4-wheelers, traveling, wood working, playing bridge, and watching his grandchildrens' sporting events. Toby will be forever remembered by family and friends as a pillar of strength, love, compassion, principle, and strong faith. He is preceded in death by his father Lawrence and is survived by his mother, Cecilia; his wife, Jane; his brothers: Joe Steffens and his wife, Rose of Hansen, ID; Bud Steffens and his wife, Maria Louisa of Mountain Home, ID; his sisters: Fran Graves and her husband, Dick of Gooding, ID; Alice McLeroy and her husband, Junior of Buhl, ID and Veronica Steffens of Buhl, ID; his three children: Daniel Steffens and his wife, Meloni and their children: Michael and Matthew of Beavercreek, OH; Jeffery Steffens and his wife, Julianna and their children: Zackary and Alexa of Newcastle, WA; and Suzanne Mader and her husband, Christopher and their children: Joanna, Shelby and Samuel of Meridian, ID. A Rosary and viewing will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 7:00 PM and Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM both at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 6300 N. Meridian Rd. in Meridian. A private graveside service for family will be held at the Meridian Cemetery on Monday, July 30, 2012. Cecilia Frances Hadamek Steffens; Birth: 8 Apr 1919, George West, Live Oak County, Texas, USA; Death: 13 Dec 2013 (aged 94); Burial: Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown; Child: Anthony Arthur Steffens (1941-2012); Additional: Cecilia Frances Steffens, 94, of Buhl, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. Cecilia was born April 8, 1919, to Henry and Mary Hadamek, of George West, Texas. She was married to Lawrence Steffens, now deceased, on Sept. 20, 1938. In 1953, they moved with their six children from Hinton, Okla., to a farm northeast of Buhl, where they farmed until 1969 when they moved to their present home. Cecilia most loved being surrounded by her children, her 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was a master domino player. Cecilia was very active in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; she was selected as Catholic Woman of the Year for the year 2000. Cecilia is survived by two younger brothers, Daniel and John Hadamek who both live with their families in Texas; five of her six children and their spouses: Frances Graves, of Gooding, Joseph Steffens, of Hansen, Veronica Steffens, of Buhl, Louis "Bud" Steffens, of Mountain Home and Alice McLeroy, of Buhl. Preceding Cecilia in death was her husband, Lawrence, and a son, Anthony "Toby." A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl. A viewing will be from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with a rosary starting at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl. ; Memorial: 121735751.
