Cites San Antonio Express, 03 Feb 1870, p. 3 Murder - We have again to record an atrocious murder which has been committed in our immediate neighborhood. A man by the name of Kossups, probably a Polander, left town yesterday evening in a little wagon. He was seen in town selling fodder, and after having finished his business started for home. He was found this morning eight miles from town, on the Bandera road, shot through the head with a pistol ball, apparently from a six-shooter. His pockets were cut open and all their contents robbed, even his coat was taken away, and the provisions from the wagon. It is generally believed that a Mexican committed the foul deed; the authorities will do all in their power to ferret out the murderer.
