      Tom Kortz; Birth: May 26, 1938; Death: Aug. 4, 2008; Note: Tom Kortz, 70, of Yorktown, Texas, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2008. He was born to Joe and Mary Opiela Kortz on May 26, 1938, in Karnes City. A member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria, Tom was also a chaplain for the Runge VFW. He was a 1956 graduate of Karnes City High School. He was retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad and had been a lifelong rancher. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ben Kortz. Tom is survived by two daughters, Susanne Kortz of Folsom, La. and Tanja Kortz-Maslanka and husband Patrick of Fort Worth; two brothers, Alvin Kortz and wife Kathy of Seguin and Jerry Kortz of Helena; two sisters, Joyce Escobedo and husband Frank of Karnes City and Patricia Boerm and husband Larry of Pettus; and one grandson, Patrick Ryan Maslanka of Fort Worth.       Tom Kortz, age 70, of Yorktown, passed away Aug. 4, 2008. He was born to the late Joe Kortz and the late Mary Opiela Kortz on May 26, 1938 in Karnes City.
      Mr. Kortz was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria, a chaplain for the Runge VFW, and a 1956 graduate of Karnes City High School. He was retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad and a lifelong rancher.

      A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. this evening at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.
      Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Panna Maria. Interment will follow the Mass in the Panna Maria Cemetery.
