      One person was killed and three were injured in a crash in southwestern Travis County on Texas 71 at Pace Bend Road, according to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
      The two-vehicle crash was reported about 9 p.m. Friday, sheriff’s officials said.
      At least three people were trapped and had to be extricated, according to emergency dispatch reports.
      A helicopter flew two people with serious injuries and ground ambulance took one person to University Medical Center Brackenridge, sheriff’s officials said.
      Texas 71 at Pace Bend Road was temporarily closed due to the crash and the investigation.
      Sheriff’s officials said the Texas Department of Public Safety would lead the investigation into the fatal accident.

      Russell Kirk Mapes, of Austin TX. died Friday Aug. 23,2013 of injuries suffered in a car accident near the Pedernalas River. Russ was born on March 31,1958 to Delmar and Amy (Voigt) Mapes in Panama City FL..He attended Crockett High School. Russ worked as a Carpenter for years, he then worked for Fed Ex. He then worked as a Trim Carpenter were he was a Master of his trade. Russ enjoyed building model airplanes, kareoke, Cowboys football, and Nascar. Russ will be forever missed by all. Russ is survived by his father Delmar,and mother Amy of Austin TX. daughter Kelly and husband Brian Mcgovern, son Clinton, and daughter Brianna and husband Johnathon Hartwig, granchildren Vincent, Kenniston, Jack, Ruby, Cherry, and Chessa, brother Brian and wife Susan, brother Mark, and brother Steven and wife Keann, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
