Frederick George Spillmann, 67, of Neiderwald, died Monday, January 7, 2002, at Seton Medical Center in Austin. He was born in Comfort, Texas, on August 21, 1934, to George Edward and Bettie Holekamp Spillmann. He attended school at Buda and graduated from Austin High in Austin. George received his teaching degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and spent 30 years teaching 8th grade math, of which two years were spent at Lamar Junior High and 27 years at Fulmore Junior High. His love for math and financial numbers carried forward into volunteer service with a number of community and civic groups. Among these were Austin Area Teachers Federal Credit Union as past Board Chairman and other volunteer positions for over 40 years; Goforth Water Supply Corporation for over 25 years, most of which were in the capacity of Chairman of the Board; Hays County Farm Bureau executive board; and Director of Hays County Soil and Water Conservation District for 4 years as well as being named Outstanding Conservation Farmer in 1992. His love for agriculture and his grain business filled his retirement years. All the groups he served and loved will remember him for his wit and humor. He leaves behind a host of many friends in the communities of Caldwell, Hays, and Travis Counties. Mr. Spillmann was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church for 60 years where his volunteerism included ushering, Day School Board Member, and Church Council Treasurer. He was currently a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell where he had recently been installed treasurer of the congregation. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, George Edward Spillmann. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Charlene Voigt Spillmann of Neiderwald; sons, Douglas and wife, Brenda, of Maxwell; Landon of Neiderwald, and Daryl of College Station; mother, Bettie Holekamp Spillmann of Lockhart; sister, Alice Joyce Armstrong and husband, Joe, of Vaiden, Mississippi; brothers, Emil and wife, Beverly of San Antonio; Douglas and wife, Jane, of Lockhart; and Richard and wife, Lexine, of Buda; grandsons, Tyler and Ryan Spillmann of Maxwell; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, 443-1366. Funeral services will be held at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 606 W. 15th St., Austin, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2002. Burial will be at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery, Maxwell, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Danny Spillmann, Justin Spillmann, Brian Mapes, Wendel Voigt, Michael Kroesche and Karl Koch. The family wishes to express gratitude for the special care given him by the ICU doctors and care teams of Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos and Seton Medical Center in Austin.
