He was born in Comfort, Texas, on August 21, 1934, to George Edward and Bettie Holekamp Spillmann. He attended school at Buda and graduated from Austin High in Austin. George received his teaching degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and spent 30 years teaching 8th grade math, of which two years were spent at Lamar Junior High and 27 years at Fulmore Junior High. His love for agriculture and his grain business filled his retirement years. All the groups he served and loved will remember him for his wit and humor. He leaves behind a host of many friends in the communities of Caldwell, Hays, and Travis Counties. Mr. Spillmann was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church for 60 years where his volunteerism included ushering, Day School Board Member, and Church Council Treasurer.
