Leslie Theodore Hild; Birth: May 16, 1919, Marion, Guadalupe County, Texas, USA; Death: Aug. 21, 2014, Texas, USA; Note: Leslie Theodore Hild, Leslie Theodore Hild was born May 16, 1919, in Marion, Texas to David and Etta (Voigt) Hild. David his dad was a big Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt fan and they used the name Theodore for Leslie’s middle name. He passed away August 21, 2014, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cleburne W. Hild, his sister Lorraine Hild Roemisch, Joe Roemisch, brother-in-law, sister Winona Hild Pritchard and brother-in-law Donald Pritchard, his sister-in-law Jewell Bormann Blang, and his beloved granddaughter Courtney Lynn Hild. He is survived by his dear wife of 68 years, Emalyn Bormann Hild, his son Jason J. Hild (Wanda) of San Antonio; his son, Forrest L. Hild of Marion; his daughter Temple Hild Turner (Garry) of Boerne, his sister-in-law, Cleora Hild, his brother-in-law Robert Blang, 2 grandsons Paul Robertson (Rochelle) of Arizona and Michael Robertson of San Antonio; 2 great-granddaughters, Kallie and Lauren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Leslie grew up on the family farm where he was born 1.5 miles west of Marion, graduated from Marion High School and began his college studies which continued until December 7, 1941. He quickly enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1941, serving 4 years as airplane engine mechanic in Florida and Hawaii. He was very good with numbers and excelled in calculus which helped lead him to get a Business Certificate which the Navy offered after the war. Upon returning from the war in December 1945, he married Emalyn June Bormann on March 7, 1946. Leslie dedicated his life to his family, his business and the Marion community. In 1946, Leslie and his brother Cleburne bought the Red and White Grocery Store which eventually became Hild Brothers Foodland, and ran a successful grocery and grainery business for 64 years until 2010. He was devoted to his career as a grocer and could often be found in Hild Bros. store simply by following his whistling, which became practically a trademark of sorts. Leslie was very much a part of the Marion community: he played tennis (he won the Guadalupe County tennis championship), played league baseball and coached, was an avid 9-pin and 10-pin bowler into his 80’s, a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Marion Lions Club and Hermann Sons, and participated fully in community events such as the Marion Sausage Supper and his children’s sports and school events. Nine-pin teams usually found it difficult to beat a team lead by Leslie, as he always got the most out of the talent he was given on the team. Leslie loved family, family events and travel. As his three children grew up, he enjoyed taking car trips with them, whether it be to the coast, to Houston to watch a baseball game (one of his biggest memories was seeing Sandy Koufax pitch in the Astrodome, “the 8th Wonder of the World” at the time), and even as far as New York for the World’s Fair or Philadelphia to visit his sister Winona and his brother –in-law Don (who was his Navy buddy in World War Two). The family would like to thank the staff of GRMC in Seguin, the GRMC intensive care unit, the GRMC Hospice Staff, and special thanks to Dr. Antonio Flores and staff. In addition, special thanks to his home caregivers, Lupe, Raul and April Rosales, and Rosalie Ruiz. The memorial service will be Monday, August 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Marion. Visitation will be Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home, 713 N. Austin Street, Seguin, Texas.; Parents: David Hild (1886 - 1976), Etta Voigt Hild (1893 - 1978); Siblings: Cleburne William Hild (1912 - 2012) *, Lorraine Olga Hild Roemisch (1917 - 1951) *, Leslie Theodore Hild (1919 - 2014), [* = Calculated relationship]; Burial: Unknown; Created by: Ancestor Hunter*; Record added: Aug 22, 2014; Find A Grave Memorial# 134700214.
