    Notes:

IMMIGRATION: August came to the U.S. between 1857 and 1860.

August married Albina "Ludwina" Roswadowski on 30 Oct 1877 in Church of the Annunciation, St. Hedwig, Bexar Co., Texas. Albina (daughter of Sebastian Roswadowski and Marie Kottisch) was born in Aug 1852 in Misline, Gross Strehlitz, Silesia, Prussia; died on 6 May 1901 in Bexar Co., Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Albina "Ludwina" Roswadowski was born in Aug 1852 in Misline, Gross Strehlitz, Silesia, Prussia (daughter of Sebastian Roswadowski and Marie Kottisch); died on 6 May 1901 in Bexar Co., Texas.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • FamilySearch ID: LHJZ-78Y
    • Census: 23 Jul 1860, Bexar Co., Texas
    • Census: 1 Jun 1870, Bexar Co., Texas
    • Census: 1 Jun 1880, Wilson Co., Texas
    • Census: 1 Jun 1900, Bexar Co., Texas

    Notes:

While there is no direct evidence, it is likely that Albina Winkler (also shown as Lucinda and Luduwika Winkler) was the daughter of Sebastian Roswadowski.
    1. Roswadowski/Rozwadowski is a unique surname in Texas with only 2-3 Roswadowski/Rozwadowski families in Texas during this time period.
    2. Sebastian Roswadowsky had a daughter between a son name Franz/Frank and another daughter named Johanna/Anna/Annie who was called at various times Ludwine/Alvina/Abina. The family lived in both San Antonio and St. Hedwig, both in Bexar Co., Texas.
3 This daughter Ludwine/Alvina/Abina Roswadowsky appears to have been born in 1852 or 1853 according to the 1855 ship manifest and the 1860 census. While the 1870 census does not agree with an 1852 birth, the 1870 census has inconsistent ages for the entire family.
    4. The marriage records for August Winkler clearly show his bride to be Albina/Albinam Rozwadoski/Rozwadowska. Unfortunately, the records do not include parents for the bride.
A notation of (26) might indicate an age for the bride which would imply a birth in 1851 or 1852. The marriage took place in St. Hedwig with the marriage license from Bexar County.
    5. The 1900 census record shows that Lucinda and August were married 22 years. This matches the marriage record found for the couple where her name was listed as "Albina/Albinam" and also rules out that August married someone else. Also, her death record is listed as Luduwika Winkler. So the wife of August Winkler was know as Albine, Lucinda, and Luduwika Winkler.
    6. The 1880 and the death record indicate that Mrs. Winkler was born about 1852. The 1900 census is inconsistent with the other two records. One possible explanation is that she might have answered that she was 47 when the enumerator asked her what year she was born. It might have then been recorded that she was born in 1847. She could have stated she was about 2 when her family came to Texas so the enumerator may have added 1847+2=1849. An age of 47 in 1900 would have been consistent with a birth in 1852 and immigration in 1854/1855.
    7. In conclusion, there appears to have been a daughter to Sebastian Roswadowski who went by the names of Ludwine/Alvina/Abina and was born about 1852. August Winkler's wife was known by the similar names of Lucinda/Luduwika/Albine, had a maiden name of Rozwadoski was also born about 1852. Both were in Bexar County in the St. Hedwig area. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a high likelihood that these individuals were the same person.
