  [S883] E-mail from Crystal Benke Skolaut to Wendel Voigt, [Schaefer p. 525]. The family story goes that census folks changed the spelling to Benke. Alexander Benko (married: ???? Schmidt...she came here from Germany) received a portion of land from the U.S. government for serving in the army...he came here from Hungary. The land that he received after being discharged from the service was in the Helotes area (in the immediate area of UTSA). In fact, his grave ....along with his wife and one of their children (a daughter) are in a small private graveyard on part of the original ranch land.
